How We Weld Band Saw Blades

How We Weld Band Saw Blades

At Sawblade.com, blade welding is more than a manufacturing step — it’s a precision process that determines blade strength, longevity, tracking stability, and cut accuracy. A properly welded bandsaw blade will run true, resist cracking at the joint, and maintain consistent tension throughout demanding cutting applications.

In this behind-the-scenes video, Ken Oyer — Production Manager at Sawblade.com — walks you through how we weld, fuse, grind, and temper blades in our Houston facility. From coil selection to weld consistency and final finish, Ken demonstrates the exact process that ensures every blade we ship is aligned, properly fused, and ready for production.

Whether you're curious about blade manufacturing or want to understand what sets a high-quality weld apart from a weak one, this walkthrough explains the workmanship that goes into every blade we produce.

The Sawblade.com Welding Process

1) Precision Cut to Length
Bandsaw coil stock is measured and cut precisely to the requested length with minimal tolerance variance.

2) Ends Aligned & Prepared
The blade ends are squared, cleaned, and positioned in the welding fixture for a flush, even join.

3) Fusion Welded
Using controlled electrical resistance and clamping force, the ends are fused into a seamless joint.

4) Annealed for Strength
The welded area is heat-treated to relieve brittleness and restore proper flexibility at the joint.

5) Ground Smooth
Excess material is removed to ensure a true, even surface so the blade runs smoothly on the wheels and through the guides.

6) Final Inspection
Each welded blade is tension-checked, visually inspected, and verified before shipment.
